JAMESTOWN, NY - With the student body back on campus and the stands full, Jamestown Community College gave the home crowd a game to remember with a 10-point win over Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), 87-77.
Things didn't start hot for JCC. CCAC jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, with Nick Delgratta starting the damage. He finished with a game-high 30 points.
The hole will grow to 16-4 for the Jayhawks before Matthew Bohurjak came in off the bench to bury a corner triple and stop the bleeding for the Jayhawks.
That three sparked a run for Jamestown as they cut the deficit down to 19-14 with just under 10 minutes to play in half after a pair of free throws from Oscar Mance.
CCAC stretched the spread back to ten with 3:42 to go in the half with a three-ball from Delgratta.
After that Jamestown started to chip away, thanks in large part to Samad Bailey, who had a team-high 21 points. An 'and one' from the guard brought the Jayhawks to within three at 34-31.
The three-point difference is where things sat at the half, with JCC trailing 37-34.
The second half was a different story. Jamestown came out clicking.
Jalyn Moorehead started to find his spacing, putting up 13 in the game and helping JCC take its first lead 44-43.
The Jamestown advantage grew to 10 on a layup from Jhamien Smith, who scored 17 and added six rebounds.
The Jayhawks looked like they could put it into cruise control with a 15-point lead after a Jean Saint-Fort layup.
CCAC didn't back down, getting the Jayhawk edge down to nine points with just over a minute to go.
Nkosinathi Dlamini was clutch at the free charity stripe late to put this one away for the 87-77 win.
The victory moved JCC to 5-9 on the year.
Jamestown is back home on Wednesday, January 24th, when they host Villa Maria at 7:30.
That game is part of a doubleheader with the ladies who play at 5:30. Those games are part of a white out. Fans are asked to wear white to the game.
