JAMESTOWN – Kyle Butler and Sheick Kourmora combined for 51 points as Jamestown defeated Pitt-Titusville, 98-78, Tuesday evening at the Physical Education Complex.
The Jayhawks (3-2) came out slow against the Panthers, trailing 4-0 in the early minutes. Kourmora got JCC on the board with a layup to stop the run. Pitt-Titusville was able to continue their momentum in the first five minutes of the game with a 14-2 lead. Jamestown stopped the bleeding, scoring 11 of the games next 14 points. During the run, Butler was responsible for seven points to get Jamestown back in the game.
Jamestown was able to keep within two possessions of the Panthers, including cutting the deficit to one as Jake Hougan made the back end of his two free throws to make it 30-29. The Panthers extended their lead to nine, making it 38-31. Jamestown was able to cut the lead to five with a layup from Hougan to make it 40-35 at the half.
Pitt-Titusville maintained the lead in the first four minutes of the second half until Jamestown went on a 9-0 run with made baskets from Johnathan Blumrick, Butler, Jordan Thomas and three-pointer from Kourmora, making it 56-53. The made three-pointer from Kourmora gave the Jayhawks their first lead of the game with 14 minutes to go in the game. Form that point on, Jamestown was able to take control of the game and didn't look back. JCC grew their lead thanks to a 16-2 run to give them some cushion with just over 10 minutes left in the game.
Butler went 8-for-14 from the field including three made three-pointers. Butler also added nine assists, seven rebounds (one offense, six defense) and four steals. Kourmora went 9-for-16 from the field with five three-pointer made. Kourmora finished his night with a double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds (two offense, nine defense). Jashawn Robinson had an efficient night off the bench, scoring 16 points on 4-for-5 shooting. Robinson was near perfect from the charity stripe, going 8-for-10.
Simeal Wofford led all Pitt-Titusville scorers with 39 points while Hysheem Robinson had a team-high 10 rebounds, respectively.
The Jayhawks established their dominance in the paint, outscoring the Panther 48-18. Jamestown also had the advantage in fastbreak points, 10-2, and bench points, 30-8.
Jamestown will have a quick turnaround as they hit the road to take on Bryant and Stratton-Buffalo Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
