ROCHESTER - Jamestown Community COllege men's basketball team fell in a rpad contest at Monroe COmmunity College, 101-57 Wednesday evening.
The Jayhawks (8-15, 1-8 WNYAC) were led offensively by Jordan Thomas with 25 points while Sheick Kourmora added 20 points. On the glass, Donathan Daniels led the way with eight rebounds (5 offense, 3 defense) with Thomas adding five defensive rebounds.
Jamestown got out to a quick 4-0 lead with Kyle Butler and Thomas knocking down their jumpers. The Tribunes answered with a three-pointer from Junior Souverian to close the gap. MCC got their first lead of the game with Willard Anderson hitting his three-pointer to take a 6-5 lead four minutes into the game.
MCC continued to build upon their offense, gaining a 10-5 lead. Kourmora made it a one possession game, making both of his shots at the line. The Tribunes did extend the game to 15-7 with JCC facing their biggest deficit of the game at that point.
JCC answered with a run of their own, scoring seven unanswered. Kourmora started the run with a three-pointer followed by two free throws from Kourmora and Thomas to cut the deficit to one point.
Trailing for a majority of the first half, the Jayhawks did tie the game up with another three-pointer from Kourmora to make it 22-22 with just over seven minutes before the break.
The Tribunes kept their composure and got the lead back, this time for good. JCC did cut the lead to 27-25 with a three from Thomas but MCC answered with three straight makes to go up 33-25 and took control of the game.
On the night, Jamestown went 19-for-70 (27.1 percent) from the floor. JCC did find success at the charity stripe, going 14-for-15 (93.3 percent) on the night. MCC went 38-for-78 (48.7 percent) while going 12-for-25 (48 percent) from beyond the arc.
The Tribunes won the battle on the boards, grabbing 58 rebounds to Jamestown's 38 rebounds. MCC also found success in the paint, outscoring JCC 44-20.
The Jayhawks will close out the regular season this Saturday at home as they take on Genesee Community College on Sophomore Day.
