BUFFALO - The Jamestown Community College men's basketball team fell to No. 9 Erie Community College Saturday afternoon, 98-71.
The Jayhawks (7-13, 0-6 WNYAC) were led by Jordan Thomas who dropped 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds (1 offense, 11 defense). Kane Kenyon added 12 points, going 3-for-5 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Kyle Butler finished with five assists, respectively.
It was a chess match in the early going between the two teams with neither team gaining much of an advantage. The Kats started to create some separation with Tavien Kemp knocking down his two free throw attempts, going up 7-4. Markus Coleman answered the ensuing possession, draining a three-pointer to tie the game at 7-7.
ECC quickly took back the momentum, scoring six unanswered points to take a 13-7 lead. The Jayhawks answered with two free throws from Thomas to keep the game within two possessions.
The Kats found their biggest lead of the first half with under a minute until the break as Terrel Brown knocked down this three-pointer to put ECC up, 54-28. Donathan Daniels answered with his own three-pointer, as Coleman set him up with the assists. ECC would however take a 56-31 lead into halftime.
On the day, the Jayhawks went 24-for-65 (36.9 percent) from the field while going 9-for-26 (34.6 percent) from beyond the arc. The Kats went 33-for-76 (43.4 percent) from the floor and 11-for-32 (34.4 percent) from three-point range.
JCC held the advantage in bench points, scoring 37 points to ECC's 26 points.
The Jayhawks will be back home next Wednesday as they host No. 13 Niagara County Community College at 7:30 p.m.
