BATAVIA - Searching for their first conference win on the season, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball will look to keep trying after falling to Genesee Community College Wednesday evening, 98-70.
The Jayhawks (7-12, 0-5 WNYAC) were led once again by Jordan Thomas who finished with 19 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Kyle Butler had a solid game, scoring 16 points and gathering six rebounds.
Thomas got Jamestown on the board early with a made jump shot, thanks to Donathan Daniels finding him for the shot. Jake Hougan continued the fast start, getting his jumper to fall as well. The Cougars answered with a layup but Jason Gullien silenced the crowd, knocking down a three-pointer to make it 7-2 in the first three minutes of action.
JCC maintained the lead for the first five minutes of action before the Cougars drew even as Selassie Bou knocked down his shot from beyond the arc.
Jamestown got the lead back up to four points with scores from Hougan and Thomas, making it 15-11 with 12 minutes until the break. With the ensuing possession, the Cougars cut the lead to one with a three-pointer and took the lead with a layup from Isaiah Clemons.
GCC captured the lead as Jordan Matos hit his outside shot, putting the Cougars up 19-17. The make from Matos sparked a run for GCC, scoring 15 unanswered points to go up 31-17. Thomas halted the run with his own make from beyond the arc.
Jamestown closed out the half scoring seven unanswered to make it 37-28 in favor of the Cougars.
The Jayhawks shot 26-for-66 (39.4 percent) from the floor while going 8-for-20 (40.0 percent) from beyond the arc. The Cougars went 36-for-74 (48.6 percent) from the floor while shooting 11-for-35 (31.4 percent) from three-point range.
The Cougars also held an advantage on the glass, grabbing 46 rebounds to JCC's 39 rebounds.
The Jayhawks will hit the road once again, looking to avenge a loss against No. 9 Erie Community College. Tip is set for 3 p.m. this Saturday.
