Jayhawks downed at home by the Tribunes

JAMESTOWN – After staying pace with Monroe Community College for a majority of the game, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team would fall 75-63 Saturday afternoon at the Physical education Complex.

The Jayhawks (7-11, 0-4 WNYAC) were led offensively by Jordan Thomas with 22 points with Kyle Butler scoring 14 points. Shieck Kourmora came off the bench for Jamestown, adding 11 points. On the glass, Thomas had a team-high seven rebounds (3 offense, 4 defense). Donathan Daniels got his teammates involved, coming away with five assists.

Coming into the game, both teams were hungry for their first conference win of the season. For the first 13 minutes of action, neither team was able to break loose from one another, only getting a two possession lead. It wasn't until the 7:51 mark of the first half that Austin James from MCC hit his jumper to put his team up 22-15. Daniels answered, hitting a three-pointer to pull his team back within four points.

Facing a six-point deficit in the final five minutes of the first half, the Jayhawks came alive, scoring nine of the games next 11 points. On the run, JCC got baskets from Jake Hougan, Kane Kenyon, Butler and Daniels. Daniels shot was a three-pointer, putting the Jayhawks on top with 1:55 to go until the break. Teams exchanged layups towards the finals seconds but JCC held onto the leading, going in up 34-33 at halftime.

After surrendering a three-pointer to start the second half, JCC scored eight straight, a layup and three-pointer form Thomas and a three-pointer from Butler, to go up 42-36. Jamestown continued to grind, pushing their lead to seven, their biggest of the game with Jason Gullien driving the lane for a layup.

The Tribunes quickly flipped the script, going on a 16-0 run to put them up 56-47 with just over 12 minutes until the end of regulation. The Jayhawks continued to battle back in the next four minutes, cutting the deficit to one as Gullien knocked down his three-pointer to trail 57-56.

Like much of eh second half, MCC got back in their groove and extended their lead back to nine and out of reach.

On the day, the Jayhawks went 24-for-61 (39.3 percent) from the floor and went 10-for-24 (41.7 percent) from beyond the arc. The Tribunes went 25-for-63 (39.7 percent) from the field while shooting a measly 2-for-14 (14.3 percent) form beyond the arc. On the glass, MCC held a 47-31 advantage while the Jayhawks had a 15-7 advantage in assists.
