JAMESTOWN - With their second game in a row against a ranked opponent, the Jamestown Community College men's basketball team fell to No. 12 Erie Community College, 107-77 in region action.
The Jayhawks (7-8, 0-1 WNYAC) were led offensively by Jordan Thomas with 22 points while Kane Kenyon and Sheick Kourmora added 15 points each. Isaac Butler III had a coming out party on the glass, grabbing a team-high seven rebounds (2 offense, 5 defense).
The Kats acme into the game on the offensive, going up 7-0 in the first two minutes of action. Jamestown got in the scoring column as Kenyon knocked down his first three-pointer thanks to a steal by Kyle Butler. ECC increased their lead to six with a layup from Tavien Kemp,making it 9-3. JCC cut the lead to one possession as Thomas drove the lane for the easy two-points, making it 10-7 in favor of the Kats.
ECC settled into their offense in the back half of the first half, increasing their lead to 13 with Tim Whitehead making his layup, going up 28-15. THe Jayhawks continued to battle on the floor, cutting the deficit to five as Kenyon found THomas for the deuce and Kourmora hitting the frontend of his two free throw attempts. The Kats closed out the first half with Ahamadou Fofana converting three free throw attempts and taking a 53-41 lead into the break.
The Kats continued to apply the pressure in the second half, increasing their lead to 15 points with 17 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Kats benefited from great shooting from the floor, going 42-for-72 (58.3 percent) while the Jayhawks went 24-for-53 (45.3 percent) from the floor. ECC held to advantage in rebounds, grabbing 43 boards to Jamestown's 30 rebounds. The Kats also controlled the paint, scoring 66 points to JCC's 24.
The Jayhawks will continue their tough stretch of games as they travel to No. 14 Niagara County Community College this Saturday at 3 p.m.
