Jayhawks sweep season series against Lorain County

ELYARIA, Ohio – The Jamestown Community College men's basketball team closed out it's 2019 portion of the season with an 80-58 win over Lorain County Community College Wednesday evening.

 

The Jayhawks (6-6) were led offensively by Jordan Thomas with 22 points with Sheick Kourmora adding 15 points. In all, ten players found the basket tonight. Ja'Shawn Robinson grabbed eight rebounds with Jake Hougan grabbing six boards.

 

Jamestown opened up the game on a 18-4 run in the games first eight minutes, including a three-pointer from Robinson. The Commodores were bale to get a bucket back before Thomas added two more points. Alex Wyatt cut into the lead with a three-pointer to cut the lead to 20-9.

 

Lorain battled back to cut the deficit to single digits with just over eight minutes left in the half. Thomas continued his hot start, knocking down his jump shot to extend the lead back to ten points. The Commodores found their offense, going on a 6-0 run to trail by four. Hougan stooped the run, driving the lane for the layup. Jamestown closed out the half on a 14-4 run to push their lead to 40-24 at the intermission.

 

Jamestown did not slow up at the start of the second half, going on a 21-4 run. Finding the basket with ease, JCC saw their biggest lead of the game come with eleven minutes left in regulation as Kourmora found his range from beyond the arc, knocking down a three-pointer to give Jamestown a 61-28 lead.

 

The Jayhawks shot 47.8 percent (33-of-69) from the field while going 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from beyond the arc. The Commodores shot 30.6 percent (22-for-72) while shooting 21.4 percent (3-of-14) beyond the arc. Lorain grabbed 43 rebounds with Jamestown grabbing 37 rebounds. JCC also had the edge in assists with 18 to the Commodore's 13 assists.

 

Jamestown will be back in action on January 8th as they take on Butler County Community College at 7 p.m.
