JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Community College men's basketball team was able pick up the win over Lorain County Community College Monday evening, 101-95, at the Physical Education Complex.
The Jayhawks (4-4) jumped out to an early 12-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game with Sheick Kourmora and Isaac Allen picking up four point each during the stretch. Kevin Miller, Jr. was able to get the Commodores on the board but JCC answered with baskets from Ja'Shawn Robinson and Allen to make it 17-2 after five minutes.
LCCC cut the deficit to single digits with a pair of free throws from Miller, Jr. and a made three from Jacob Marsh to make it 21-12. JCC pushed their lead back to double-digits with a made jumper from Jonathan Bourne and a three from Kyle Butler. The Commodores kept fighting in the first half as they were able to string together a 15-6 run, making it 32-29. Jamestown built there lead back to seven with a layup from Jason Guillen and two free throws from Jake Hougan.
The Commodores kept fighting with under three minutes before halftime, cutting the deficit to one with a three from Marsh, making it 39-38. Robinson answered for the Jayhawks, knocking down a three to quite the LCCC bench. JCC would take a 50-44 lead into intermission.
JCC was bale to maintain a two-possession lead for most of the second half a 12-point lead with another three from Robinson to make it 68-56 with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation. LCCC did make it a three-point game after Jaylen Jenkins knocked down a three at the 10-minute mark.
The Commodores were able to make in a one-possession game on multiple occasions but the Jayhawks were able to maintain their lead. JCC put the game away with a layup from Allen and two free throws from Kourmora.
Allen lead all scorers with 24 points with Kourmora adding 21 points. Robinson had his recorded a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Butler had 14 points with Hougan adding 11 points, respectively. Hougan was dominant on the defensive end, blocking four shots.
The Jayhawks took advantage of the Commodores mistakes, scoring 24 points to their 13. JCC also had the edge in points in the paint, 58-50.
Jamestown will be back in action this Wednesday, December 4th, as they travel to Butler County Community College for a 7 p.m. tip. This will be the first of a three-game road trip.
