Cougars 3 pointers Keep Jayhawks Offense at Bay

The JCC Jayhawks men's basketball team (13-8) went on the road to face the Cougars of Genesee Community College (11-11).   An early 3 point shot by #10 Derek Ice (Bronx) gave the Jayhawks a quick 5-2 lead but with 5 minutes gone the games was tied up 11-11.  Two 3 point shots by the Cougars kept the Jayhawks from gaining momentum and with 10 minutes left in the first period, the score was 19-16 in favor of the Cougars.  The Jayhawks again took the lead and the teams swapped leads but another 3 points shot by the Cougars kept the Jayhawks from going on a run and with 5 minutes left in the period the score was 26-22 in favor of the Cougars.  The Jayhawks got within 2 points of the Cougars before another 3 point shot gave the Cougars separation and the first half came to an end with the score 35 Cougars, 29 Jayhawks.

Both offenses come out firing in the second half but the Cougars were able to keep the 5 point lead after 5 minutes of play with the score in favor of the Cougars 41-35.  The next 5 minutes saw more of the same as they Jayhawks got close to catching up to the Cougars but the Cougars continued to score as well and with 10 minutes left in the game the Cougars were up 47-41.  Both teams continued to score but the Jayhawks began to gain momentum and with a #10 Derek Ice (Bronx) 3 point shot with a little over 5 minutes remaining, the Jayhawks were within 3 points of the Cougars down 57-54.  The last 5 minutes saw the Cougars gain the advantage and go on a run, with yet another 3 point shot adding to their lead with the scoreboard reading 66-55 with 3:15 remaining.  The Cougars continued to keep the advantage and downed the Jayhawks 78-63. 

The Jayhawks were led by #34 Jean Toussaint who had a double double of 13 points and 10 rebounds; #4 Mike Bush (Harlem) had 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists; #10 Derek Ice (Bronx) had 11 points and 3 rebounds; #32 Brandon Kemp (Brooklyn) had 10 points and 6 rebounds; #12 Tyler Moffe had 9 points and 3 assists; #21 Brandon Banna had 8 points and 7 rebounds; and #23 Romario Allen had 3 rebounds.
