Jayhawks Stonewall Kats Late Rally

The JCC Jayhawks men's basketball team (13-6) went on the road to face the Kats of Erie Community College (10-7).   The first 5 minutes of action was fast paced and high scoring as both teams took turns having the lead as the score quickly read 15-15.  The Jayhawks would go on a run over the next 5 minutes, scoring 9 unanswered points as with 10 minutes left to play the Jayhawks held a 24-15 lead.  The next 5 minutes had the Jayhawks continued to assault the basket, outscoring the Kats 8-4, and holding a 32-19 lead.  The final 5 minutes of the period saw both teams pick up the pace and ECC hit two 3 pointers to chip away at the Jayhawks lead as the first half came to an end with the Jayhawks still in the lead 44-33.

The second half would start with the Kats continuing to claw their way back into the contest and after 4 minutes of action, the Kats were closing in on the Jayhawks 46-41.  The Jayhawks would regain their focus and began to pull ahead and with 10 minutes left to play, the Jayhawks held an 11 point lead, 62-51.  The next 5 minutes would have both teams matching each other point for point as both teams scored 11 points with the Jayhawks out in front 73-62.  The final 5 minutes of the game would be action packed as the Kats went on a fast scoring frenzy and with 4 minutes left to play were right back in it down 75-72.  The lead would be narrowed down to 76-74 with 3 minutes left to play and then 78-77 with 2 minutes left to play.  Clutch free throw shooting by the Jayhawks allowed the team to quell the Kats attack as the Jayhawks would go on to win 87-80.

The Jayhawks were led by #12 Tyler Moffe who had 21 points and 3 rebounds; #34 Jean Toussaint had a double double consisting of 18 points and 12 rebounds; #4 Mike Bush (Harlem) had 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists; #10 Derek Ice (Bronx) had 15 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals; #32 Brandon Kemp (Brooklyn) 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists; and #21 Brandon Banna had 4 points and 3 rebounds.
