Jayhawks Rally, Survive Wild Finish, And 7 Jayhawks Reach Double Digit Scoring

The JCC Jayhawks men's basketball team (12-5) hosted the Vikings of Villa Maria College (10-9).   The Jayhawks fell behind early, finding themselves down 8-2 after 2 minutes of play.  But the Jayhawks continued to attack the basket and eventually caught back up to the Vikings.  The two teams swapped leads or tied several times in a ten minute span that had the Vikings ahead 32-29 with 5 minutes left to play.  The teams continued to battle it out and with 2 minutes remaining the Vikings held a 38-36 lead until a 3 point shot by #21 Brandon Banna gave the Jayhawks the lead.  The Jayhawks momentum continued and the Jayhawks took a 45-40 lead into the half. 

The Jayhawks momentum spilled over into the second half where in the first 4 minutes of play the Jayhawks had outscored the Vikings 12-2 and took a commanding 57-42 lead.  Both teams offenses began to pick up and with 14 minutes left to play it was 63-48 Jayhawks.  Momentum now began to switch back and forth and with 10 minutes left to play it was Jayhawks 73, Vikings 62.  The next five minutes saw more amazing offense from both teams as they combined for 24 points and with 5 minutes to play the Jayhawks held a comfortable 86-73 lead.  However, the Vikings had one more rally left in them and with 20 seconds left to play, they were only down 3 points to the Jayhawks 94-91.  The Jayhawks would hold on to down the Vikings 97-91. 

The Jayhawks were led by #34 Jean Toussaint who had 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists; #4 Michael Bush (Harlem) had 16 points and 4 assists; #32 Brandon Kemp (Brooklyn) had 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals; #10 Derek Ice (Bronx) had 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals; #23 Romero Allen had 15 points and 4 rebounds; #12 Tyler Moffe had 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals; and #21 Brandon Banna had 10 points and 3 rebounds.
