Bretten Schreve opened the spring season for the Jayhawks with his first match on Tuesday, February 4th, where he played a best of 7 against East Georgia State College (4-2). Bretten jumped out with a Game 1 win with a 3-1 decision. However, EGSC went on a run, taking Games 2, 3, and 4 with 3-2, 3-1, and 3-2 scores, respectively. Bretten made it a series again with a 3-2 win in Game 5. Ultimately, the Bobcats sealed the 4-2 series win with a 3 knockout to 0 win in Game 6.
Looking to shake the rust off, his next match was against Catawba Valley Community College (0-0). Bretten led the Jayhawks to a convincing 4-0 series win and the first win for the Jayhawks for the Spring 2025 season. Game scores were 3-1, 3-0, 3-2, and 3-1.
Schreve was back on the sticks Wednesday, February 26th, for his first regular season Super Smash Brothers match against Pensacola State College. He asserted his dominance early with a 3-0 win in round 1 and cruised his way to a 4-0 win in the best of 7. Rounds 2 through 4 had him winning 3-2, 3-0, and 3 knockouts to 1 to close it out.
Phoenix and Luthaya Beard made their debut for the eSports team competing in Mario Kart on Tuesday, March 4th.
Luthaya Beard's debut was against Lake Region State College, but they unfortunately found themselves on the wrong side of a 4-0 decision.
Phoenix's debut was also spoiled by Finger Lakes Community College, which took the best of 7 by a score of 4 races to 0.
Bretten was back in the cockpit on Thursday, March 6th, where he continued pursuit of another stellar season with a convincing 4-0 win against Marshalltown Community College. Match decisions were 3-1, 3-2, 3-1, and a Game 4 decision of 3 knockouts to 0 to close out the series. Bretten improved to 2-0 on the season with the win.
On Thursday, March 6th, all 3 Mario Kart players were in action this evening.
Luthaya started things off for the Jayhawks against the Seward County Community College Saints. While winning their first race of the season, Luthaya unfortunately lost the best of 7 by a score of 4 races to 1.
Phoenix was up next, this time against Danville Area Community College. Unfortunately, the Mario Kart team's struggles continued as DACC took the series 4 races to 0.
Allie Langston made her season debut with her own best-of-7 series against Highland Community College-IL after some technical issues left her off the roster last week. Despite some of the closest races in her career, she was unable to drift her way to a win, and HCC went on to win the series 4 races to 0.
With the losses, Luthaya and Pheonix begin the season 0-2, while Allie sits at 0-1 to start the season.
