Jayhawks drop season-opener at Gannon University

ERIE, Pa. - The Jamestown Community College baseball team opened their 2020 campaign with a loss at Gannon University Monday afternoon.

 

The Jayhawks (0-1) drew first blood in the season-opener with Billy Harmon driving in the run to go up 1-0. The Golden Knights answered back, getting two runs off Shaun Holyfield.

 

Gannon provided security runs in the bottom of the eighth, driving in two more runs, this time off Junseok Lee.

 

Paul Tripi led the offense, going 3-for-4 from the plate with each hit being a single. Cole Tippens also provided offense, going 2-for-3 from the plate including a triple.

 

Evan Harrison got the nod on the mound, going six innings while giving up two hits and recording eight strikeouts. Holyfield (0-1) came in for relief at the start of the eighth, giving up one hit, striking out two batters and letting in two runs in 1.1 innings pitched. Lee finished the game, giving up one hit and two earned runs.

 

The Jayhawks will next be in action on Saturday, March 21st, as they travel to Community College of Allegheny County for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
