Jayhawks Come Up Just Short

The Jamestown C.C. Jayhawks would lose two games to the Tompkins-Cortland Panthers on Sunday May 5, 2019 in a double header at home in a NJCAA Region three matchup.

Game One: #18 Caleb Caldwell started the game on the mound, going five innings and only surrendering four hits before being relieved by #14 Braiden Blair, who went onto finish the game for the Jayhawks. Tompkins-Cortland C.C. stricked first, opening up the first inning with three runs heading into the bottom of the first. The Jayhawks, however, responded in a big way as #11 Misa Rodriguez, crushed a two-run homerun to left field. By the end of the first, Jamestown C.C. maintained a four to three lead going into the third inning. Both teams in the third would score two runs a piece with #1 German Nolasco, driving in #8 Spencer TeWinkle, and #23 Evan Harrison, scoring off of an infield error moving the score to six to five. The panthers, unfortunately, scored three runs in the sixth inning to recapture the lead. Although the Jayhawks cut the deficit to just one run with a sacrifice fly to right field by Nolasco, the comeback would fall just short as Jamestown would lose eight to seven.

Game two: In game two, Harrison started things off on the mound for Jamestown C.C. and just as in the first game, the Jayhawks started off hot on offense, scoring four runs off four hits to take the early four to two lead. In the second inning, Caldwell drived in two runs with a rocket drive to the left field fence, and Blair also hit in one runner with a shot to center field to draw within one run of the panthers at six to five through three innings of play. From there, the Jayhawks tied the game in the fourth inning and both sides digged in defensively through the next three innings heading into the seventh. Tompkins-Cortland C.C. eventually went on to score one run in the seventh to put the game out of reach for the Jayhawks. The final score read eight to seven in favor of the panthers.
