Jayhawks Baseball vs Finger Lakes CC (double header)

The JCC Jayhawks men's baseball team (NJCAA Div III, 8-27) hosted the Lakers of Finger Lakes Community College (NJCAA Div III) in double header action.  The Lakers took the lead early, going up 2-0 on the Jayhawks after 1 inning.  After a scoreless 2nd inning, the Jayhawks scroed in the bottom of the 3rd inning to cut the lead to 2-1.  A defensive battle ensued throughout the 4th and 5th innings.  This all changed in the top of the 6th inning as the Lakers scored 2 runs to take a 4-1 lead.  But, the inning was not over and the Jayhawks fought their way back into the game in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the game 4-4.  After a scoreless 7th inning, the game went into extra innings.  Jayhawks hopes of a happy ending to their rally faded as the Lakers scored twice in the 9th inning and the Jayhawks were unable to rally any further, falling to the Lakers 6-4.  The Jayhawks offense was led by #15 Connor Fitzgerald (Ontario) and #18 Michael Wilcox (Falconer) who each had 2 hits and 1 RBI; #24 Noah Whalen (Buffalo), #2 Cam Haberberger (Jamestown), and #4 Justin Forster (East Otto) had 2 hits and scored 1 run each; #21 Robbie Burgess (Westfield) had 1 hit, scored 1 run, and had 1 RBI; and #7 Noah Weinstein (Jamestown) had 2 hits.  The Jayhawks pitching was led by #9 Jeff Miller (Jamestown) who faced 32 batters while giving up 7 hits, 1 earned run, and striking out 3 batters.

The second half of the double header saw the Jayhawks take an early 2-1 lead over the Lakers  after the 1st inning.  Scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings led to a 4th quarter where the Jayhawks scored twice to take a commanding 4-1 lead and put themselves in the drivers seat with only 3 more innings to play.  However, in those 3 remaining innings the Lakers got hot and outscored the Jayhawks 12-1 on their way to obliterate the Jayhawks earlier lead and down them 13-4.  The Jayhawks offense was led by #8 Michael Keller (Clarence) who had 2 hits and scored 2 runs; #21 Robbie Burgess (Westfield) had 1 hit and 2 RBI's; #18 Michael Wilcox (Falconer) scored 1 run and had 1 RBI; #4 Justin Forster (East Otto) had 1 hit and scored 1 RBI; and #2 Cam Haberberger (Jamestown) scored 1 run.  The Jayhawks pitching was led by #18 Michael Wilcox (5-6) who faced 23 batters while giving up 8 hits, 7 earned runs, and striking out 3 batters.  #25 Jeremy Cole (Sherman) also saw action allowing 7 hits, 4 earned runs, and striking out 2 batters.
