Men's Baseball vs Genesee CC

The JCC Jayhawks men's baseball team (NJCAA Div II, 7-20) hosted the Cougars of Genesee Community College (NJCAA Div II, 11-28) in double header action.  The Jayhawks fell behind early with the Cougars scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning.  The 2nd inning saw the Cougars score again and the Jayhawks got on the board with a run of their own to cut the Cougars lead to 4-1.  The 3rd inning saw the Cougars score 2 more runs while the Jayhawks added 1 run to stay somewhat within reach of the Cougars 6-2 lead.  However, that was the end of the scoring for the Jayhawks on this day.  The 4th and 5th innings saw neither team score and the 6th and 7th innings saw the Panthers add one run in each inning to expand their lead as they downed the Jayhawks 8-2.  The Jayhawks offense was led by #18 Michael Wilcox (Falconer) who hit a monster home run and had 1 RBI; #6 Jimmy Schuab (Falconer) had 3 hits; #8 Michael Keller (Clarence) had 2 hits; and #4 Justin Forster (East Otto) scored 1 run.  The Jayhawks defense was led by pitcher #10 Michael Williamson (Cuba) (1-4) who took the loss while giving up 8 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 4 batters.

The second game of the double header saw a similar pattern in many of the Jayhawks games this season as it almost seems the first game never happened, and a more determined and focused team takes to the diamond.  The Jayhawks jumped out to an early lead with 2 runs in the 1st inning.  The Cougars got on the board with a run in the 2nd inning to close in on the Jayhawks 2-1.  The Jayhawks difficulties in the 3rd inning all season continued as the Cougars scored 3 runs to take a 4-2 lead over the Jayhawks.  But, as has been the case all season, the 'never say die' Jayhawks didn't let that 3rd inning affect them, and put up a run in the 4th inning followed by 2 more runs in the 5th inning and the Panthers were done scoring after the 3rd inning as the Jayhawks clawed their way back to a 5-4 come from behind victory.  The Jayhawks offense was led by the hot bat of #18 Michael Wilcox (Falconer) who hit another home run, had 2 hits, 3 RBI's, and scored 2 runs.  Other contributors to the victory were #15 Connor Fitzgerald (Ontario) who had 2 hits and scored 2 runs; #4 Justin Forster (East Otto) who had 2 hits and scored 1 run; and #6 Jimmy Schuab (Falconer) had 1 hit and 1 RBI.  On top of his hitting heroics, the Jayhawks defense was led by pitching ace #18 Michael Wilcox, whose mastering of numerous pitches kept batters guessing as he pitched the entire game, giving up 9 hits, 3 earned runs, and striking out 2 batters.
