Men's Baseball vs Tompkins Cortland CC

The JCC Jayhawks men's baseball team (NJCAA Div II, 6-17) traveled to face the Panthers of Tompkins Courtland Community College (NJCAA Div II) in double header action.  Both teams had scoring on their minds and both teams caught fire in the early going.  The 1st inning saw the Jayhawks score 2 runs in the top of the inning and the Panthers answered that with 5 runs of their own.  The second inning saw both teams score 2 runs.  The third inning, which has been the Jayhawks Achilles heel for most of the season, saw the Panthers score 4 more runs to take a 11-4 lead into the 4th inning.  The Jayhawks scored 2 runs in the 4th and shut down the Panthers to get a little closer to the Panthers 11-6.  But the 5th and 6th inning would prove to be too much for the Jayhawks as they were outscored 7-2 in that stretch.  Another run by the Jayhawks in the top of the 7th did little more than make the game look closer as the Panthers downed the Jayhawks 16-9.  On offense, the Jayhawks were led by #24 Noah Whalen (Buffalo) who had 4 hits and scored 3 runs; #4 Justin Forster (East Otto) who had 3 hits, 3 RBI's, and scored 1 run; #8 Michael Keller (Clarence) had 2 hits, 2 RBI's, and scored 3 runs; #7 Noah Weinstein (Jamestown) had 2 hits and 1 RBI; and #23 Andrew Latona (Jamestown) had 1 hit and scored 2 runs.  The Jayhawks defense was led by pitcher #25 Jeremy Cole (Sherman) (0-2) who took the loss giving up 7 hits, 5 earned runs, and striking out 2 batters.

The second game of the double header saw a classic seesaw battle between two evenly determined squads.  The Jayhawks took a 2-0 lead after the 1st inning.  The Panthers added a score of their own in the 2nd inning to narrow the score to 2-1.  The 3rd inning saw the Jayhawks score and widen the lead 3-1.  The 4th inning remained scoreless and the Panthers rallied in the 5th inning, turning in two score of their own to tie the game 3-3.  The Jayhawks scored in the 6th to take a 4-3 lead.  However, the Panthers were not done and in the bottom of the 7th inning, they scored to tie the game 4-4 and go into extra innings.  In the 8th inning, the Jayhawks scored twice to take the lead for good as they downed the Panthers 6-4.  The Jayhawks offense was led by #6 Jimmy Schuab (Falconer) who had 1 hit, 1 RBI, and scored 2 runs; #8 Michael Keller (Clarence) who had 2 hits and scored 1 run; #15 Connor Fitzgerald (Ontario) and #23 Andrew Latona (Jamestown) each had 1 hit and 1 RBI; and #2 Cam Haberberger (Jamestown) had 1 RBI and scored 1 run.  The Jayhawks defense was also instrumental in the win.  It was led by pitcher #18 Michael Wilcox (Falconer) (3-4) whose variety of pitches left batters guessing as he pitched the entire game, allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs, while striking out an amazing 10 batters.
