Four JCC Teams Earn NJCAA 2019-20 Academic Team of the Year Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The National Junior College Athletic Association office has announced the 2019-20 Academic Teams of the Year which includes four teams from Jamestown Community College.

 

In order to be recognized as a 2019-20 Academic Team of the Year, each team’s grade point average must be a 3.0 or higher to receive the award.


The teams from JCC include volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s basketball and wrestling.

 

The JCC volleyball team had a team gpa of 3.26 thanks in part to having four athletes being named to the NJCAA Region III Academic All-Region. Jenna Caskey, Alexys Marsh, Maddy Russo and Emma Wirsen all had a gpa of 3.5 or higher.

 

The JCC women’s soccer team finished the academic year with a gpa of 3.0. The women’s soccer team also had four athletes being named to the NJCAA Region III Academic All-Region Team with Kayleigh Coolidge, Emily Phelps, Heather Sampson and Hannah Sholl all earning a 3.5 or high gpa this past academic year.

 

The JCC women’s basketball team also had a good showing in the classroom, earning a team gpa of 3.22. On the team, they had five players named to the NJCAA Region III Academic All-Region Team with Gabby Iuculano, Abi Lisciandro, Katelyn Fardink, Marisa Schuppenhauer and Macey Lundmark all earning a 3.5 gpa or higher.

 

To round out the JCC teams being honored, the Jayhawk wrestling team was one of two wrestling teams in the country to receive this honor. The wrestling team compiled a gpa of 3.13 with Dan Torres, Taiga Jones, So Murata and Seth MacTavish all earning a 3.5 or higher gpa.
